Heavenly Holidays: A festival on the mountain! This fun celebration features a 16-foot interactive snow globe where the kids can get their photos taken with Santa. The first Hot August Nights kicked off in 1986 when a fleet of classic autos made their appearance on the lawn of Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno, NV.

The cars were being shown off by their owners and, true to form, onlookers marveled at the timeless beauty. Hot August Nights is a celebration of classic rock and roll and cars. The year is the 32nd annual event and Reno’s biggest street festival. Events will continue throughout the week that appeal to all ages. Virginia City celebrated last week before the party settled into the streets of Reno and Sparks. Almost all the hotel-casinos are hosting show n shines and other competitions, with free entertainment to boot.

This month at the Winter Olympics in Korea, there are eight Reno-Tahoe athletes who are going for the gold.

Jamie Anderson from South Lake Tahoe has scored gold in the snowboarding slopestyle. We have the latest updates on all of our local athletes and how they are doing in the competition.

Bryce Bennett

Bryce Bennett is a Tahoe native and a part of the men's alpine skiing squad. He was born in Squaw Valley and calls Tahoe City his current home. In the alpine combine, Bennett was 17th of the 37 skiiers and had a combined time of 2:09.97. For the competition each skier takes on run in the downhill and one in the slalom – the fastest combined time wins. Bennett was in 23rd after his downhill run and his slalom time bumped him up a whole six

Lake Tahoe is enjoying the largest snowpack in 22 years.

Experts say that the snow will last until mid-summer and several of the local ski resorts are extending their season into June – some even to the Fourth of July. This translates to excellent spring conditions and dual days, the term used to describe weather perfect for multiple activities.

Ski in the morning and go kayaking or hiking in the afternoon. While you’re at it, don’t forget to stop at the area’s best and newest restaurants and bars.

Mount Rose Ski Tahoe has the most snow in North America with 700 inches of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service. That equates to the height of the Yerba Buena Tunnel on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Their

TEDx South Lake Tahoe is designed to stimulate your brain.

On Wednesday, October 5 The Loft at Heavenly Village will host 9 diverse individuals. Each presenter will have up to 18 minutes to convey their exciting ideas on a subject in the technology, entertainment and design fields. TED Talks have expanded their Northern Nevada reach and are coming to Lake Tahoe.

Robin DeSota led the effort to bring TEDx Talks to South Shore. Topics covered by the nine presenters will range from why failure should be on everyone’s bucket list to why art matters to philanthropy and even ways to use music festivals as a model for sustainability.
