TEDx South Lake Tahoe is designed to stimulate your brain.
On Wednesday, October 5 The Loft at Heavenly Village will host 9 diverse individuals. Each presenter will have up to 18 minutes to convey their exciting ideas on a subject in the technology, entertainment and design fields. TED Talks have expanded their Northern Nevada reach and are coming to Lake Tahoe.
Robin DeSota led the effort to bring TEDx Talks to South Shore. Topics covered by the nine presenters will range from why failure should be on everyone’s bucket list to why art matters to philanthropy and even ways to use music festivals as a model for sustainability.
“Pat Moore will be talking about confronting your fears and embracing your fears when doing anything in life, using his own experience with snowboarding around the world – it’s sort of a metaphor for why each of use needs to confront our fear and learn about it.” DeSota said.
While not every speaker is a local to the Reno-Tahoe area, many have some sort of connection to the Tahoe Basin. Those that were chosen were carefully reviewed by a board comprised of South Lake locals. DeSota and the board hope to make this an annual event.
TEDx events are independently organized conferences modeled after nonprofit organization TED’s Ideas Worth Spreading campaign. Their gola emerges from the TED experience – to engage leading thinkers from the area to create discussion on how to enhance the community.
This event is sold out, but don’t worry the livestream can be found via the organization’s live webcast by clicking on www.livestream.com and searching for the term “TEDx South Lake Tahoe”.
