What better way to celebrate the holidays than in the beautiful Reno-Tahoe area.

The northern Nevada region is blessed with four beautiful and distinct seasons with winter being no exception. What better way to celebrate the holidays than with a backdrop of glittering, pure-white snow, warm, hearty meals and crackling fires. We have all of the latest news and mountain playtime that should not be missed this holiday season.

Northstar California: Après Ski

This ski resort is known for its exciting runs, large amounts of snow and the quaint Northstar Village. This winter, they will be offering several on-slope activities like their Marshmology program by the fire-pits. Indulge in bacon-wrapped s’mores and tease your palette with the Après Ski Champagne Experience complete with Moet & Chandon Ice Imperial and a raw bar with shrimp cocktail and ceviche.

Gar Woods: Seasonal Delights

Lakeside dining at Gar Woods is always spectacular and even more so with snow-covered views and a special holiday dinner. This year, the infamous restaurant will serve braised lamb shank, pan-seared California sea bass with lobster risotto, and filet Oscar with Dungeness crab. Call ahead and make your reservation, as this spot is a local favorite.

Diamond Peak: Wild Bill’s BBQ at Snowflake Lodge

Tired and hungry after a great day on the slopes? Diamond Peak’s bunny slopes are where many local Tahoe and Reno residents learned how to ski. And you don’t even have to leave the resort for sustenance – head on over to Wild Bill’s BBQ at the Snowflake Lodge. Chef Bill Vendenburg offers delicious and tender authentic southern barbeque that is slow-cooked and smoked on site with house barbecue sauces and traditional sides. Sit by the lodge’s fireplace and enjoy a flavorful lunch.

The Ritz-Carlton: Holiday Dining

Bring your Northstar ski pass to the Manzanita restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe for a Skier’s Lunch Buffet. Or come back on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to celebrate a Fred Flinstone-style Niman Ranch pork tomahawk with heirloom baby beets and tater tots fried in duck fat.

Ritz-Carlton: Winter Stargazing Snowshoe Tour

Head out on either December 21 or the 28 to gaze upon the dark skies above Northstar. This snowshoe tour and telescopic viewing is hosted by star guide Tony Berendsen. After trekking through the forested landscape, enjoy a presentation of the constellations along with telescopic viewing on the back terrace of the Ritz.

Squaw/Alpine Super Pass

This year, Squaw/Alpine is partnering with Sierra-at-Tahoe and Sugar Bowl to present the Tahoe Super Pass. This pass lets you ski unlimited on special days at all four resorts. Squaw is also offering their “Women of Winter” clinics for intermediate skiers and riders.

Adventure Mountain Sledding

Rent an inner tube for the day and fly down Adventure Mountain in South Lake. Choose from one of the 15 machine-groomed sledding runs or warm up at the new rock fireplace.
