After going through the toughest recession in its history, Northern Nevada has hit some major economic development victories.

Last year, 156.4 million pounds of cargo came through Reno’s airport the three to four weeks prior to Christmas. This whopping number was an all-time record for the facility. And the airport isn’t the only player in the region to see shipping traffic “take off”.

The improving economy has combined successfully with the increased adoption of e-commerce, which has help fuel an increase in the number of new warehouses and distribution center. Over the weekend, the Tahoe Sierra ski resorts welcomed fresh powder to their slopes.

Those resorts are counting down to the 2017-18 season. Sugar Bowl reported the most snowfall of 14” and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows was close behind at 12”. Boreal up at Donner Summit had 7” of powder and Mt. Rose reported 3-4”.

Lake Tahoe is more than just a ski destination – it’s a way of life. The beautiful alpine lake has produced many famous athletes. Olympic gold medalist Julia Mancuso grew up in Squaw Valley, also known as Olympic Valley and host of the 1960 Winter Games. The Loop is a $30 million, 20-acre complex with planned family and adult dining options, bowling, roller-skating, ropes course and much more.

In addition to all the bells and whistles, The Loop will contain a year-round indoor sports facility called the Sportsdome XL. This recreation multiplex is the brainchild of several different developers who’ve partnered up to make South Reno even better. Construction will soon begin at the corner of South Meadows and Double Diamond Parkways, with opening slated for 2018. First will come the opening of two dining and entertainment spaces, with the 120,000-square-foot Sportsdome XL to follow.
