Memorial Day weekend is coming up and Reno has it packed with fun and reflective events.

Whether you’re chowing down on pancakes for breakfast, or you’re honoring our troops at a Virginia City parade, this is a great list of events to get your Memorial Day weekend with the family planned. Remember those who have served and also spend some quality time together. What could be better than that!

Pancake Fundraiser

Get your ‘cakes as early as 7am on Monday, May 28 at the Atlantis Resort. This is a fundraising event to benefit Honor Flight Nevada, which sends veterans to Washington D.C. to visit memorial sites. Join in on the breakfast gathering from 7am until 11am.

On May 9, Reno celebrated 150 years since the city’s founding back in 1868.

How did Reno get started you ask? A century and a half ago, the Central Pacific Railroad auctioned off 400 lots surrounding the site of a planned railroad depot. The city of Reno was born.

The town was named after General Jesse Lee Reno, who was a Union Army general that was tragically gunned down by a Confederate sniper in 1862. General Reno has actually never set foot in Nevada, much less the city that was named for him. Historical researchers believer that CPRR president Leland Stanford dubbed the town Reno to honor his friend General Irvin McDowell, how was one of Gen. Reno’s former commanding officers.

The luxury market in Northern Nevada is defined as homes valued at $1,000,000 or higher. It’s also important to consider that people who own this price home in the Nevada market are very likely to own another luxury home in a different market. Fennell shares who is buying and selling these properties and what some of the trends in this price range are. Nine Days: Remember that hit from the 90s “Absolutely (Story of a Girl)”? Well, that’s these guys! Based out of long island, the band is back on tour after a decade hiatus and will be playing shows on May 18 and May 19 at The Brew Brothers in the Eldorado.
