Chomp Down on Reno Bites Week

Posted by Brooke Sullivan on Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 at 6:59pm

Marking its fifth anniversary, Reno Bites Week expands to 10 days this year.

This annual celebration of Reno food culture will extend from October 7 – 16, while the first four years of the events were seven days long. Also new this year is participation by the local casinos including Bistro Napa in the Atlantis, Brew Brothers in the Eldorado, Canter's Deli in the Silver Legacy and El Jefe's Cantina in Circus Circus

This week features nearly 30 restaurants (including 12 new to the event) that will offer various specials, prix fixe menus and signature events. The popular Chef Showdown, a cook-off showcasing top local chefs, returns this year to Czyz's Appliance.

The theme this year, and the first time it's been themed, is Road Trip.

"It gives chefs something to create around – dishes inspired by road trips – and it gives the public something to expect when they walk in a restaurant," said Natasha Bourlin, co-founder of Reno Bites with Chef Clint Jolly of Great Thyme Catering. "It adds that extra personal level of connection to the chef and gives an even more personal experience with the restaurants."

Whole Foods is sponsoring the Reno Bites Passport for the first time as well. When you visit a restaurant, you get a sticker for your passport. Every sticker is one entry into a drawing for prizes – including the grand prize, a six-pack of classes to Nothing to It Culinary Center.

Rawbry will be pouring out strawberry cashew milk spiked with sea salt and Roundabout Grill is offering a roasted vegetable risotto with gusts of basil. Don't forget to pop over to Wedge Cheese Shop for their truffled burrata and bacon marmalade – perfect for a sliced French baguette.

Other returning participants are the Cheese Board, Chez Louie, Moo Dang, the Mustard Seed, Noble Pie Parlor, SoDo, SouthCreek Pizza, Sup and Zozo's Ristorante, who will be offering specials at $10, $20 or $30.

Signature Events

Urban Roots, a new participant, is closing out the week on October 16 by hosting a signature event, a fundraiser for its school and an on-site farm eduaction program. Five local chefs are preparing dishes and they will cost $75 per person.

Between October 7 and 16, signature events range from German sausages, sides and brews at Pignic Pub & Patio to an Oktoberfest Israeli dinner with bottomless beer from Blend Catering to a 1970s-inspired tasting menu at Rapscallion Seafood House & Bar.

Other signature events range from a Mangia Tutti Pasta menu prepared by chef David Holman at Campo Reno to the Caravan to Casablanca blend of food and music at Homage Bakery to Feed the Camel's food truck competition at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center in which mobile cuisinistas compete using a secret ingredient.

On October 15, Tournant is presenting a "Hannibal"-themed pop-up showcasing cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and "Silence: The Musical" at Good Luck Macbeth Theatre, followed by three courses at Crème Cafe.
