The Reno Phil Orchestra and Chorus will perform patriotic and classical favorites at Wingfield Park in Downtown Reno. Conducted by Laura Jackson, this family friendly performance will begin at 7:30pm and will end with a fantastic firework finale. This event is free to the community.

Nine Days: Remember that hit from the 90s “Absolutely (Story of a Girl)”? Well, that’s these guys! Based out of long island, the band is back on tour after a decade hiatus and will be playing shows on May 18 and May 19 at The Brew Brothers in the Eldorado.

Priests: This emerging post-punk band released a hard-hitting, acclaimed album last year called “Nothing Feels Natural” as well as a swanky touring gig with Franz Ferdinand. They hail from Washington, D.C. and play on May 18 at The Holland Project.

The new Business Improvement District in downtown Reno will provide public safety, cleaning and marketing services.

Based on the assessed value of their property, owners in the district will be charged a fee to fund a private organization to provide these services. The new fee will replace two special property tax assessments already paid by most property owners in the proposed downtown district and will generate over $2 million for the private, non-profit organization to maintain the area.

The organization will be run by a private board of directors selected by a nomination committee. The nominating committee will be run by a group of downtown business activists. Ambassadors will be hired to greet tourists in the district and to provide public

Lake Tahoe received seven feet of snow in just seven days.

Heavenly Ski Resort and Squaw-Alpine Meadows both received over 80 inches in the seven days totals that began on Valentine’s Day. The winter snow total for Heavenly is now approaching 550 inches.

Vail Resorts announced on February 22 in a press release that both Heavenly and Northstar will be extending their scheduled closing days by at least a week this year. The resorts will close April 30.

Other resorts in the area are even more ambitious. Squaw-Alpine plans to stay open until the Fourth of July this year. The large resort has seen some 565 inches of total snowfall this season – that’s over 47 feet.
