The Reno-Tahoe region has been on the rise in the media and housing is no exception.

While more jobs are being created in Northern Nevada, that means more people are coming to fill those jobs. While the median Reno housing market has been on the rise, what does that mean for the luxury market?

Only 3-4% of Reno-area home sales involve luxury homes with a price tag of $900,000 and up. That percentage is on the increase and there are predictions that the number of homes sales will double this year over 2017. Changes in the federal tax laws have already pushed up interest in the Reno market. Beginning this year, federal tax reform changes will cap interest rate deductions on mortgage debt up to $750,000 (down from

Cyclocross is considered one of the fastest growing events in the world of cycling. Even the best racers get a challenge because of the tough conditions of the course. Reno has plenty of challenging terrain and natural obstacles for the 1,500 athletes

Northern Nevada has earned big headlines in the news as a major tech hub, but is it really the next Silicon Valley?

Image courtesy of the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce

Particularly since Tesla began construction on its Gigafactory, Reno has had national headlines pegging it as the newest Silicon Valley. Lately, they’ve sounded something like this:

“For decades, the city was a gambling mecca. But when casinos fell on hard times, Reno struggled. The city has reinvented itself as a tech hub, thanks to recent arrivals like Tesla.”

That clip came from CBS This Morning as they touched on Reno’s economic improvements. And they are right – many big names in tech have moved, or expanded to northern Nevada in recent time including Apple, Switch

Divided between California and Nevada is Lake Tahoe, or as the indigenous Washoe Indians called it “The Lake of the Sky”. After going through the toughest recession in its history, Northern Nevada has hit some major economic development victories.

Last year, 156.4 million pounds of cargo came through Reno’s airport the three to four weeks prior to Christmas. This whopping number was an all-time record for the facility. And the airport isn’t the only player in the region to see shipping traffic “take off”.

The improving economy has combined successfully with the increased adoption of e-commerce, which has help fuel an increase in the number of new warehouses and distribution center. Add a growing manufacturing base producing items from cheese to pet food to electric batteries, and Northern Nevada continues its transformation as a distribution mecca. Storage and

Many Nevadans get a three-day weekend to celebrate our great state, but we also get to celebrate the history behind it.

Nevada Day is October 31, but it is traditionally observed on the Friday before. The day is a celebration of when Nevada became a state during the civil war. Every year students at elementary schools across the state are taught this history and take part in dozens of activities that made Nevada what it is today – panning for gold, learning about Nevada’s original postal operations and taking part in native dances created by some of the state’s most historic tribes.

State buildings and schools will be closed on Friday, October 27, but federal buildings will remain open. The Nevada Day Parade will take place in Carson City on
