Sizzling Mid-Summer Events for the Entire Family

The summer heat is sizzling in Reno-Tahoe! We are looking forward to so many great events this July and August. Reno becomes an art oasis in the entire month of July, classic cars crawl the streets, and an epic light festival grace the region this summer. Take a look at the list we have gathered of some of our favorite events this season. Which will you attend?

 

Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival

Now through August 20

Imagine your toes in the sand, a fantastic bottle of wine nearby, a gourmet meal in hand and great theater before you… all while basking in a perfect Lake Tahoe sunset with your family and friends. You’re not dreaming. You’re experiencing the thrill of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival! Make plans to attend the Festival in 2023 as it celebrates its 51st anniversary season with a pair of extraordinary productions. Enjoy great entertainment in an exceptional setting with onsite, al fresco dining.

 

Dragon Lights Reno

Now through August 13

Dragon Lights is coming back to Reno, Nevada with bigger and brighter displays this summer! This year the festival will shine lights on mini creatures in the garden and bring back the iconic dragon in a completely new form. As you walk through the gardens, you will find more than a thousand pieces of larger-than-life lantern sculptures that not only glow but also move and change colors.

 

Artown

The entire month of July 

During the entire month of July, Reno is Artown! Exciting and engaging Artown events will be happening throughout the month at locations around Reno, including children’s art workshops, concert series, movies in the park, historic and cultural tours and art exhibits. Headliner shows will be announced soon. Past headlining concerts performances have included The Sextones, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., Keb’Mo’, Tim Snider & Wolfgang Timber, Sheléa, Whitney Myer and more!

 

Food Truck Fridays

Every Friday! 

Kick off the weekend with food trucks in the park every Friday 4-9 pm from June through August. Come hungry and leave full with over 45 rotating gourmet food, craft desserts, beer, wine and mixed drink vendors to serve you weekly. Free to attend with live music, lots of grass to sit on with friends and family, plenty of parking and a large playground and train rides for the kids, we are a great family event for locals. Relax in the park, bring your lawn chairs and a blanket and let us cook for you! Reno Street Food is the original weekly gourmet street food event in Reno put on by locals for locals.

 

Barracuda Championship

July 20 - 23

Recognized as a favorite stop among golf professionals, the Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event takes place each summer at the beautiful Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood golf course. Don’t miss this opportunity to see renowned PGA TOUR players tackle this stunning golf course. The event was also hosted at Montreux Golf & Country Club for over 20 years! 

 

Classical Tahoe

July 21 - August 6

The 2023 Classical Tahoe festival presents four weeks of outdoor orchestra, chamber music, and jazz concerts in stunning settings on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore. Join Classical Tahoe at the Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe to hear 70 virtuoso musicians from the top orchestras in the country for a festival of concerts and events for music lovers of all ages. Classical Tahoe’s mission is to present world-class performances, nurture community partnerships and provide educational programs that all inspire, connect, and transform lives.

 

Hot August Nights

August 1 - 6

Hot August Nights is a must-attend event for car and music enthusiasts alike. Thousands flock to the Reno Tahoe area for free live headline entertainment, show-n-shine competitions, nightly cruises, drag races, loads of vendors and the popular Hot August Nights car auction.

 

Northern Nevada Dragon Boat Festival 

August 19

Sparks Marina provides the perfect conditions for stellar dragon boat racing with eighty acres of water accommodating swimming, boating, fishing, and scuba diving. Add in breathtaking views of the nearby mountains, and you’ve got one of the most picturesque venues on the summer calendar.

 

Water Lantern Festival

August 19 

As the sun begins to set on the evening sky, the Water Lantern Festival begins to shine with the launch of the lanterns onto the water as we Light The Water together. Watch your unique lantern drift into the water as it joins other lanterns carrying hope, love, happiness, healing, peace, and connection.

 

Reno Chalk Art & Music Festival

August 25 - 27

More than 150 of the best chalk artists in the nation transform blacktop into one-of-a-kind masterpieces at the Reno Chalk Art & Music Festival. This is the largest chalk art event in the region and features live art installations, live music, food and drink experiences, local art and craft shops, and a Kids Zone. During the three-day celebration of color, master artists turn ordinary pavement into something extraordinary before your eyes.
