The mountains in Northern Nevada are dusted with snow and the holiday season is in the air! There are so many great activities during the winter season to enjoy. From skiing and snowmobiling to ice skating and snowshoeing, the outdoor fun is endless. After a day on the slopes, there are plenty of attractions in the city this December to get you in the holiday spirit. Don’t be a scrooge, check out some of these fun and exciting upcoming events!

 

Christmas Wonderland

THE ROW

November 23 - December 25

THE ROW announces the return of “Christmas Wonderland” in the Eldorado Showroom, beginning Thanksgiving week on Wednesday, Nov. 23, with performances through Sunday, Dec. 25. The family-friendly Christmas spectacular will be complete with stunning costumes, festive thematic decor, performances from the highest kicking chorus girls found on this side of the North Pole and more. Get into the holiday spirit with Santa and his merry helpers as they take the audience on a nostalgic Christmas journey with renditions of favorite Christmas songs, such as “White Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Jingle Bells,” “Silent Night,” “Deck The Halls,” “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” and other holiday classics.

 

Christmas on the Comstock

Christmas on the Comstock is about tradition and you won’t find a better place that brings history and that warm, Christmas vibe together for one magical experience than in Virginia City.

Christmas on the Comstock goes all out in December. This Victorian-style holiday celebration features an official tree lighting, a play offering a new take on the holiday classic “The Comstock Christmas Carol,” a saloon crawl, our Believe Again Shopping Spree, the V&T Candy Cane Express, the Train O’Lights and much more. Prepare for this to be your new favorite holiday tradition. Some of the signature events taking place during Christmas on the Comstock include a holiday decorating contest, holiday concert, parade of lights and more.

 

Let it Glow Reno

December 1 - January 8

Let it Glow, Reno is the beginning of what will be an annual community event, aiming to drive people into local business districts of Reno while strolling down lit up streets and enjoying all that their local community has to offer while voting for their favorite lights while shopping at their favorite local businesses. Participating organizations include Midtown District, downtown Reno, Reno Riverwalk District, Reno Brewery District and Wells Avenue.

 

AVA Ballet Theatre Presents the Nutcracker

Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts 

December 9 - 11

The stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts will be alive with a sugar plum fairy and dancing mice as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the annual Nutcracker Ballet on December 9, 10 and 11. Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting rendition of the popular holiday ballet and the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s moving score. Laura Jackson will be conducting the orchestra. Due to popular demand, a fifth performance has been added this year. Principal dancers who have performed with professional ballet companies such as Ballet West, Kansas City Ballet and the Diablo Ballet will perform the leading roles along side a large cast of local talent. A special Sugar Plum party will be held after the Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances where children can meet the Nutcracker characters.

The iconic tale of little Clara and the enchanted nutcracker toy has captivated audiences for over a century. With a cast of the finest talents and a lavish blend of costumes, scenery and outstanding choreography, The Reno Dance Company’s extraordinary production creates a magical winter wonderland that mesmerizes children and ballet enthusiasts of all ages. Celebrate 20 years of fun family tradition while experiencing the timeless music of Tchaikovsky and breathtaking performances by 25 professional dancers as well as 80 local children from the Reno-Sparks area who will showcase their passion for dance on Reno’s acclaimed Grand Theatre stage.

Featuring amazing singers centered around the story of an elf that receives a magic guitar for Christmas. Enjoy mashups of your favorite holiday and rock classics set to unique cirque acrobatics and act that will leave you amazed. Showtimes are every night at 7:00 p.m. through December.
