Kicking off Fall with September Events in Reno

With four mild seasons in Northern Nevada, the fall has to be one of our favorites. With over 300 days of sunshine annually each year, the cooler nights and crisp air is perfectly complimented by clear blue skies here in Reno-Tahoe. The kids are back in school, the beaches of Lake Tahoe are emptying, and in couple of months the mountains will be dusted with snow. What are some of your favorite fall activities? We put together a few of our favorite upcoming events in the region to keep you entertained until Halloween!
September 8 - 9
Be Greek for the weekend! Authentic Greek cuisine infuses the neighborhood with delicious scents of olive oil, lemon and oregano. Sharing the Greek culture with the community for nearly 40 years, the Reno Greek Festival has proven to be a signature celebration in Reno, Nevada. Bring the entire family and enjoy traditional food, dance, music, and desserts in an entertaining Mediterranean atmosphere.
September 8 - 10
Soaring high above the Reno skyline, upwards of 80+ beautiful hot-air balloons take flight. It has been one of Reno’s most colorful and spectacular events for over three decades and is located just 2 miles from downtown Reno! Sure, it might be a bit earlier than you’re used to, but it’s worth the wake! The Great Reno Balloon Race is free to the public and spectators have the ability to explore balloons up close on the field. Kids, keep an eye out for special trading cards of your favorite balloons!
National Championship Air Races
September 13 - 17
The 2023 National Championship Air Races are full speed ahead to return to Reno next September, featuring head-to-head air racing at speeds exceeding 500 mph! Don’t miss amazing performances by the National Aviation Heritage Invitational, military displays, the STEM zone, STOL, an impressive variety of aviation exhibits and more.
Reno Tahoe International Art Show
September 14 - 17
Founded by Reno-based father-daughter duo Kevin O’Keefe and Briana Dolan, the RTIA Show anchors the Reno Creative Movement, a vision to position Reno Tahoe as a national destination for arts and culture. Art and design enthusiasts enjoy RTIA Show’s lively, sophisticated exhibition filled with beautiful art and creative design, set off by live music performances, on-floor Talks and ongoing hospitalities.

A number of special events occur throughout the year in Genoa, but none are more significant than the annual Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire. The original Genoa Candy Dance and Dinner fundraiser in 1919 were held to pay for street lights for Genoa. After the lights were purchased, it became necessary to continue the fundraising to cover the cost of the electricity, and in 1974 the Arts & Crafts Faire was added to the event. The Genoa Candy Dance tradition continues to support the Town of Genoa today. This event, which boasts over 300 arts and crafts, activities, and food vendors, draws thousands of people to Genoa during the two-day event.

Off Beat Music Festival is a citywide, multi-venue festival that’s all about discovering the amazing new things being created right here in Reno – music, food, art and more. Performances are at a mix of venues from small bars to large theaters, creating a “festival crawl” where you have the option of discovering new music from a choice of 80 performances over three days at different locations around the core of Reno. Go off the beaten path and make some new discoveries.
