The East Shore Trail between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park is now open!
The three mile route features 17 designated vista points, 11 designated shoreline access points, eight bear-proof trash stations, more than 30 bike racks, three bike repair stations with air pumps and tools, five bathrooms and five benches with more on the way. There are also six bridges, one of which is the longest bridge in the Tahoe Basin at 810 feet.
The parking is currently free. At the trailhead, there are three new parking lots with about 90 spaces near Ponderosa Road right off of State Route 28. In the coming months, it will be converted to paid parking through the Tahoe Transportation District, with revenues to be used to operate and maintain the trail.

At 10 feet wide, the path is generously sized and welcomes both bicyclists and pedestrians. The leisurely trail rises about 150 feet in elevation, which provides just the right amount of challenge. The scenery is spectacular, with front-row views of beautiful Lake Tahoe.

The path is also dog-friendly, with several dog waste stations along the way. The pavement heats up quickly, so its advised that you take your pup for a walk early in the morning or at dusk to to avoid burned paws.
If you decide you want to wiggle your toes in the sand once you arrive at Sand Harbor, walk-up access to the park is just $2.
Our own Rob Wonhof and his wife Margie recently visited the trail. From Montreux Golf & Country Club, it's just a short 30 minute drive, making it the perfect day trip!
