The Cancer Classic at The Club at ArrowCreek is a meaningful event combining golf and philanthropy to support cancer research and treatment in Reno, Nevada. The first-annual event took place on September 30, 2024 at the prestigious Club at ArrowCreek, a private golf and country club nestled in the hills of Southwest Reno. The tournament provided an opportunity for participants to enjoy a day on the greens while raising funds for a cause that impacts many families.
The Club at ArrowCreek is renowned for its two championship courses, the Legend and the Challenge, offering a unique blend of terrain and stunning views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Designed by prominent figures in the golf world, these courses present an enjoyable yet challenging experience for golfers of all skill levels, making them an ideal venue for charity tournaments like the Cancer Classic. The scenic beauty and well-maintained fairways add to the appeal, with each hole designed to offer a different challenge and captivating views, creating a truly memorable golfing experience.
The Cancer Classic drew the local community together and attracted participants from across the region, fostering a spirit of unity and compassion. It offered a unique opportunity for golfers, donors, and supporters to come together for a common goal: supporting cancer patients and advancing research efforts.
Proceeds from The Cancer Classic at The Club at ArrowCreek support the Conrad Breast Center, a full-service breast health center currently under construction at Renown South Meadows Medical Center. This new state-of-the-art facility will offer imaging services (mammograms, ultrasounds, MRI), medical oncology, surgical oncology, research, pharmacy, and wellness. The Conrad Breast Center will occupy the third floor of the new Specialty Care Center.
In addition to the golf tournament, the Cancer Classic included a helicopter ball drop from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office RAVEN 3 HH-1H Huey helicopter. Participants were able to purchase golf balls and mulligans to further engage with the cause.
The atmosphere during the event was fun of camaraderie and hope, with members and guests rallying together. Hall of Fame golfer, Annika Sorenstam, serves as the honorary chair of the Cancer Classic, which benefits the Pennington Cancer Institute at Renown’s Conrad Breast Center.
This year’s event raised over $350,000!
