Flirtey CEO Matt Sweeney claims that the drone delivery age is right around the corner and Reno will be the first on the list.

The Reno-based drone company completed the first multi-drone delivery demonstration with a single pilot in the Federal Aviation Administration’s Drone Integration Pilot Program. The test was successfully performed in front of FAA representatives and put the company on track to approval for its drone delivery program. They hope to send consumer products by air, including FedEx packages, medical equipment and supplies.

“This program runs us through the end of 2020, so we expect that we’ll be regularly saving lives and improving consumer lifestyles through drone delivery in Reno even before that,” Sweeney said. “We’re

The world’s largest free hot-air balloon festival makes its return to the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park this weekend.

In 1982, just 20 hot-air balloons took flight at the Great Reno Balloon Race. Now, close to 100 balloons will lift off on September 7 – 9. Spectators are clad in pajamas, wrapped in blankets and clutching hot beverages as they gaze into the sky for the Glow Show that takes place at dawn. Shortly after, some will rise for Dawn Patrol and then the rest follow later at Mass Ascension. Skill and consistency are the keys to a victory and a piece of the $11,000 prize.

The mission of the GRBR is to provide a premier, safe and family oriented event that is visually dramatic and celebrates the joy of flight while remaining free to the

Companies looking to relocate are flocking to Northern Nevada - why?

The Reno-Sparks region has become a distribution mecca, due mostly in part to its proximity to I-80. Nancy McCormick is the vice president of business retention, expansion and workforce for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) and they use I-80 as a selling point. According to data from EDAWN, the area has one-day truck service to the Bay Area, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland and Boise. Add an extra 24-hours and two-day service is available to Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico.

"We have immediate access to port of entry in California and logistically can reach locations in 11 western states within 24 - 48 hours," said McCormick. "It's

The new $4 million warehouse is a small extension of Apple’s already wide footprint on the Reno area. The company has announced plans to invest $350 billion in the U.S. economy over the next five years, including doubling the size of its $1 billion data center east of Reno.

“We are pleased to be part of transforming downtown Reno to the vibrant city it should be,” Cook said at the ceremony. “Our commitment to Reno and Northern Nevada is representative of the commitments we’ve made throughout the U.S.”

After going through the toughest recession in its history, Northern Nevada has hit some major economic development victories.

Last year, 156.4 million pounds of cargo came through Reno’s airport the three to four weeks prior to Christmas. This whopping number was an all-time record for the facility. And the airport isn’t the only player in the region to see shipping traffic “take off”.

The improving economy has combined successfully with the increased adoption of e-commerce, which has help fuel an increase in the number of new warehouses and distribution center. Add a growing manufacturing base producing items from cheese to pet food to electric batteries, and Northern Nevada continues its transformation as a distribution mecca. Storage and

On August 21, eighty-five percent of the sun in the Reno area will be covered in darkness by the Great American Eclipse.

The last time an American total eclipse bathed the continent was in 1979, however it didn’t reach coast to coast. On the morning of the 21, the sky will look gray and overcast in prediction of the upcoming eclipse. The sun will go completely dark for about 2-3 minutes in other parts of the United States, from parts of Oregon all the way to Charleston, South Carolina.

“It stretches coast to coast and the United States is the only place in the world that gets to see this,” said Dan Ruby from the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center in Reno.

One of the perks of being in Reno is that residents can see the partial eclipse

What is all the hype about Reno? We’re here to tell you.

Northern Nevada has long-been known for being home to the largest alpine lake in North America, Lake Tahoe. But that isn’t all that the area has to offer. Reno lives up to its classic adage of being “The Biggest Little City”. From the views of the snow-capped Sierra Mountains to the tax-friendly business structure, it was easy to come up with 10 reasons we love living here.

  1. There’s always something to do

The Reno-Tahoe region is blessed with 300 days of sunshine annually. Combine that with four distinct seasons and it is hard to stay indoors on just about any given day of the year. With the abundance of mountains, lakes, rivers, sun and snow, the range and choices of outdoor
