Lake Tahoe ski resorts have extended their operations well into the spring following record snowfall in February.

Skiers and riders rejoice! More than 50 feet of snow has fallen so far this season and the mountains could even get a bit more. An extended season has been announced by the area’s resorts, which means more bang for your buck for season pass-holders.

Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows will operate lifts in Squaw through July 7, which is just 8 days shy of their latest closing date ever on July 15, 2017. Last year, Squaw closed following Memorial Day weekend. Alpine Meadows will operate into May with its schedule dependent on both weather and the construction of a high-speed chair lift that will replace Hot Wheels.

The old Galena Lodge welcomes a trio of brand-new businesses, the perfect pit stops before or apres ski!

For 30+ years, the Alpine lodge on Mount Rose Highway was home to restaurants. You’ll find the quaint location just a few minutes beyond Montreux, in the Galena Forest area as the road rises towards Lake Tahoe. The Galena Forest Inn was built and opened in the lodge in 1983 by Reno culinary figures Gaudenz Derungs and Walter Zahnd. Julius Weiss, another Reno chef, bought the restaurant in 1988 and ran it for a decade before it was purchased by Craig Cunningham, another longtime local restauranteur. Later in 2005, Sierra Solitaire set up and wasn’t around for long. The Lodge at Galena followed and was open until 2013.

Snowsport enthusiasts are patiently waiting for the powder to fall on Lake Tahoe’s ski resorts. Here’s all that’s new for the 2018/2019 season.

Believe it or not, ski season has begun in the Tahoe region and the hopes for another long and strong winter are high. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe opened limited terrain the weekend of October 19 for season-pass holders and plans to reopen to the public this weekend (October 26) with limited terrain. Mt. Rose is usually the first to open due to its area-high base elevation of 8,260 feet.

Last year we had a weaker snow season overall in the greater Reno-Tahoe area, but Mt. Rose still had 324 inches of snow which allowed its skiers to carve and glide down its 1,200 acres from October to the end of April. During the

In just two weeks, one of Lake Tahoe’s greatest secrets will be unveiled.

At the bottom of Emerald Bay are the sites of more than a dozen sunken vessels. California State Parks will open an underwater trail to four sites in Emerald Bay leading visitors through a boat graveyard. Take a boat and peer down into the wreckage dating back from the 1920s and ‘30s. State park divers found two large barges and a dozen recreational boats, including a vintage 27-foot launch. Denise Jaffe is the associate state archaeologist who headed up the project and a scuba diver who helped develop it.

This is the largest and most diverse group of sunken small watercraft of their type in their original location. The trail will be called the “Emerald Bay Maritime

There are so many awesome outdoor experiences around Reno and Lake Tahoe and Interbike 2018 is here this week so we wanted to share some of our favorite mountain biking trails.

Before we know it, members of the biking world from all over will be descending on our area looking for great places to ride. These trails are fun for locals and visitors alike!

Peavine is a great place to start here in the Reno area. It has a huge network of trails and the Biggest Little Trail Stewardship has spent recent years adding and improving the single-track trails. Peavine is a big mountain all by itself on the northwest side of town, resulting in fast, flowy trails with awesome views of downtown Reno and the Sierra Nevada.
