The number of visitors to the Reno-Sparks and Washoe County regions over the past year has topped the 5 million mark for the first time since 2007.

What caused the increased visitation for fiscal year 2017? The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority and area policymakers have a few ideas. The U.S. economy is stronger than ever, and this has led to a renewed push to market the Reno-Tahoe Area, plus all of the buzz from the arrival of high-profile tech companies including Apple, Google and Tesla.

Reno launched from number 11 last year to number 6 this year in the annual “America’s Best Cities 2018” list.

From the buzz, the recreation and the booming tech industry, Reno was a no brainer to land in the top ten overall among small cities. Nevada landed a one-two punch with Las Vegas ranking as the number 5 best large city. The Resonance Consultancy releases the rankings, with their clout as a global destination branding consulting firm with offices in NYC and Vancouver.

The report bases its rankings on six different categories, a mix of traditional and non-traditional metrics like economic factors, infrastructure, housing affordability, Google results and social media trends. It’s no longer accurate to rely only on economic indicators.

Companies looking to relocate are flocking to Northern Nevada - why?

The Reno-Sparks region has become a distribution mecca, due mostly in part to its proximity to I-80. Nancy McCormick is the vice president of business retention, expansion and workforce for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) and they use I-80 as a selling point. According to data from EDAWN, the area has one-day truck service to the Bay Area, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland and Boise. Add an extra 24-hours and two-day service is available to Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico.

The Cyclocross National Championships were just held near the University of Nevada, Reno, over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

Las Vegas’ CrossVegas is one of the best-known cyclocross events in the U.S. and the first place that a World Cup was hosted, so it only makes sense that the event should come to Reno. Right? The 2018 USA Cyclocross National Championships took over Rancho San Rafael Regional Park from Tuesday, January 9 until Sunday, January 14.

Reno-Tahoe has been chosen by the largest U.S. Bicycle Industry Trade Show as its new home.

Interbike is America’ leading cycling trade show and has recently created its very own Interbike Marketweek. The consumer festival will begin with a weekend getaway at the breathtaking Northstar California Resort in Lake Tahoe, followed by a trade-focused OutDoor Demo and moving into the Interbike trade show which will take place in Reno.
