The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is the place to be this weekend to see the kokanee salmon make their way upstream for spawning.

The Fall Fish Festival returns on October 6 – 7 from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and all of the salmon have turned bright red just in time. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is located on California Route 89 about 3 miles north of South Lake Tahoe. The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit hosts the event in collaboration with Great Basin Institute and the festival offers opportunities to learn about native fish species in Tahoe and its tributaries. The Lahontan cutthroat trout is considered “threatened” as a species by the federal government.
