Breaking ground in Reno, the Kimpton hotel is slated to open in 2025.

 

Las Vegas-based CAI investments has chosen the Biggest Little City for its next property investment. With properties in other states like Arizona and Florida, CAI is also working on two big projects in the downtown core of Reno. 

 

CAI is also renovating the former Harrah’s Reno hotel-casino into a mixed-use residential and commercial project that will later be known as the Reno City Center. The project already has Clear Capital promised as its first major office tenant and just opened a new Starbucks. Construction continues to move forward and the first residential units should be open sometime this year.

Economic and demographic factors often play a large role in the achievement of the American Dream of owning a home. Millions have this common goal, however the economy can be a limiting or improving factor. Even with a recent pandemic, the United States homeownership rate stood at 65.5% in 2021.

 

ZeroDown, a real estate platform, analyzed data from the Census Bureau’s Housing Vacancies and Homeownership Survey to determine which states have had the highest growth in homeownership over the past ten years. To break any ties, data from 2021 was used.

More homes came on the market this year than last year, but they are selling more quickly. The 2021 Luxury Trends report has arrived and what a year it was. The luxury real estate buying boom, which started in 2020, grew frantic in 2021. In both years, luxury buyers headed to less populated areas to escape pandemic fears and restrictions and gain some much needed space while spending a lot of their time at home.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced that Team USA will play at the Reno Events Center for the 2022 Davis Cup qualifier against Colombia. The competition will take place March 4 – 5 and be the very first Davis Cup match in Reno as well as the first in Nevada since 1995. In fact, the only time that the competition has taken place in the Silver State was when the U.S. and Sweden played at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas 17 years ago.

A Davis Cup event is an international showcase of some of the world’s best tennis players and is viewed as the World Cup of men’s tennis. The competition is the largest international team play in world sport with almost 150 nations participating every year. The upcoming qualifier is a best-of-five match

2021 has been a wild ride for all of us, but in the midst of so many changes many new restaurants made their debut in Reno and Sparks. New places serving Thai food, beer, empanadas, Detroit-style pizza and juicy burgers are just some of the culinary additions to Northern Nevada this year.

Here’s a look at some of the new eateries here in town:

  • Beline Carniceria & Deli opened this spring, quickly earning a reputation for its weighty, cheese-packed tortas and birria, a traditional Mexican stew that the deli has transformed into a beefy torta and cup of soup for dipping and drinking. The deli also features different cuts of meat, Mexican spices, sauces, drinks and snacks for you to try your Mexican cooking skills at home.
