Partner Spotlight: LakeCrest Builders

Welcome to our monthly Partner Spotlight! Where would we be without our partners in the community? They are just one of the many reasons that Reno-Tahoe is such a special place to live.

LakeCrest Builders has an excellent and diverse team that offers full custom home building services not only to the residents of Montreux, but to all of Northern Nevada. We spoke to the founders, Jim and Dave, about what their company does and why they think Reno is so special.

How did your company get started?

"Our founders, Dave Pearce and Jim Smrt have been building exceptional, custom-built homes in the Reno-Tahoe area since the early 1990’s. Together they’ve built LakeCrest Builders, a company dedicated to delivering quality workmanship that exceeds expectations. With decades of experience designing and building custom homes, Dave and Jim approach each build and design with the mindset of making every detail of their clients’ dream home a reality."

About LakeCrest Builders

Since 1984, the owners of LakeCrest Builders, Inc., Dave Pearce and Jim Smrt have been building some of the most exceptional custom-built homes in the Reno-Tahoe area. Together, Dave and Jim offer a wealth of experience, ingenuity and knowledge of the building industry.

Dave started Pearce Construction in 1984 in the bay area of California. Dave moved Pearce Construction to the Reno area in 1993 and soon after met Jim. Dave began working with Jim as a trade partner on projects in 1995.

Jim started LakeCrest Homes in 1989 in Reno, Nevada. Jim was a partner in the development of the Saddlehorn subdivision and built many of the homes in that area. In 1996 Jim focused his attention to the Montreux subdivision. Between Jim and Dave together they have built over 130 homes in the Montreux subdivision.

In 2010 Dave and Jim decided to start LakeCrest Builders. The decision was made to combine the best of their staff and focus their efforts together. LakeCrest Homes and Pearce Construction have been phased out and all their work is now done under the new company of LakeCrest Builders.

Because we believe that teamwork is a critical element for client satisfaction, we focus on building relationships with our clients and partners. In addition to a beautiful home, our clients receive educational support and guidance throughout the custom home building process. We value our clients and understand what it takes to build custom homes and make dreams come true.

What brought you to Montreux and why?

"Well actually, Jim Smrt and one of the original partners in Montreux (Rob Nichols) built the community and invited everyone else to come to Montreux. So the answer to the question is: we’re glad everyone else came!"

ARXX insulated concrete walls are a terrific upgrade, especially in a biting winter with crazy winds like this year. Can you tell us more about this specialty product?

"Once you live in an Insulated Concrete Form home, short is “ICF” which is now manufactured by “Fox Blocks”, you will quickly realize that there is nothing like the comfort level of an ICF home. The feeling of being inside of one these structures is incredible. The wind is nonexistent, and the insulation values are second to none. It’s a feeling of warmth and comfort that is wonderful!"

Are you one of the only builders in the area using this construction?

"There may be another builder in the area that will assemble the ICF home, but no other builder will consider the attention to detail that LakeCrest Builders will."

What’s your favorite thing about living in Northern Nevada?

"That’s a long list. To start, the proximity to the mountains, hiking, fishing, skiing, clean fresh air. One of my favorite things about northern Nevada is being able to drive away from the center of town and find yourself far from the hustle and bustle in the middle of scenic Northern NV in a matter of a few minutes."
