Four Great Reno Tahoe Mountain Bike Trails

Posted by Brooke Sullivan on Friday, September 14th, 2018 at 10:14am

There are so many awesome outdoor experiences around Reno and Lake Tahoe and Interbike 2018 is here this week so we wanted to share some of our favorite mountain biking trails.

Before we know it, members of the biking world from all over will be descending on our area looking for great places to ride. These trails are fun for locals and visitors alike!

Peavine

Peavine is a great place to start here in the Reno area. It has a huge network of trails and the Biggest Little Trail Stewardship has spent recent years adding and improving the single-track trails. Peavine is a big mountain all by itself on the northwest side of town, resulting in fast, flowy trails with awesome views of downtown Reno and the Sierra Nevada.

The Marlette Flume at Lake Tahoe

Riders say that this is the best mountain bike trail in Nevada. Yes – you heard it. Some of our trails are longer and some are faster, but this one has the VIEWS. Beautiful views of the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. You can access the trail a few different ways. One is to head up North Canyon Road from Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. This will get you right up to Marlette Lake and onto the Flume trail, where you get incredible panoramic views. The ride down to Tunnel Creek Road is a fast one, but don’t forget to stop for a snack and a refreshing beverage at the Tunnel Creek Café.

Ask and Kings Canyon Loop in Carson City

Epic Rides is an off-road series that consists of 3 days of mountain bike culture, live music and a world class single track. They travel all over and their latest venture is the Ash and Kings Canyon Loop in Carson City. Basically, Epic Rides is obsessed with fun trails. There has been a ridiculous amount of work volunteers and boosters in the state’s capital who have put a lot of work into their trails. This trail has an uphill that will test your stamina followed by a whole bunch of single track with sweet views of Carson City and the Eagle Valley. Locals recommend stopping by Shoe Tree Brewing afterwards to cool off.

Mills Peak to Graegle

The Mills Peak trail is found in the Lost Sierra near Graegle and this is another gem that has gotten some TLC in past seasons. This is a great ride up-and-back, or you can get a shuttle to Mills Peak and take it all the way down. Not only does the peak have beautiful views, but there is even a historic fire watch tower that you can climb! The run down to Graegle is a fast and fun rip.
