There’s a chill (and a new woodsy aroma) in the air, the leaves are changing, the supermarket is packed with pumpkin spice-flavored products, and Halloween decorations are popping up everywhere. That's right: Fall is in full force. So why not make the most of that perfect temperate weather and the festive spirit? There's no shortage of fun fall activities to try—both indoors and outdoors. We have all of our favorite September and October events listed below. We hope you enjoy welcoming the turn of a new season with a little festive fall fun!

Great Italian Festival

The Great Italian Festival transforms downtown Reno into Little Italy with a grape stomp, an Italian farmers market, food booths and incredible free, live entertainment all weekend long.

A crowd favorite year after year continues to be the Great Italian Festival Sauce Cook-off. Italian families from across the West Coast bring their recipes to life right on the street for guests to taste. People’s Choice ballots for favorite sauce will be given with the purchase of pasta.

No Italian Festival would be complete without plenty of homemade Italian food. Spectators are invited to “finire di mangia” – or “eat up” as the Italians say with plenty of delicious foods like chicken Parmesan, spaghetti and meatballs, meat ravioli with Bolognese, tortellini Eldorado, Gnocchetti pesto, Italian sausage and peppers, fried calamari and the ever-famous mushroom ravioli with porcini cream sauce. Complete your meal with a delicious dessert of homemade gelato, cannolis or Nutella ricotta Crespo, a sweet ricotta crêpe with strawberries and Nutella drizzle.

Apple Hill

Near the Sierra foothill town of Placerville, just off the beaten path between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe are the Apple Hill Growers. They are an agriculture community with a rich history in farming and winemaking where a new generation of growers invites you to share the experience with your family and friends.

Representing over 50 local, family farms, the Apple Hill Growers are dedicated to supporting agriculture in our community. Founded in 1964 with just 16 apple ranches, they’ve now grown to include unique fruit & veggie farms, bakeshops, wineries, B&Bs, flower gardens, and Christmas tree farms. The winding roads and scenic beauty have been a popular destination for over 50 years. With the recent Caldor Fire, much of the region that surrounds Apple Hill was affected. Before enjoying the fruits of Apple Hill Growers, be sure to check for the latest updates. Supporting the area this Fall is a great way to help stimulate this community’s economy and spur further recovery.

Water Lantern Festival

As the sun begins to set on the evening sky, the Water Lantern Festival begins to shine with the launch of the lanterns onto the water as we Light The Water together. Watch your unique lantern drift out into the water as it joins other lanterns carrying hope, love, happiness, healing, peace, and connection. Come experience the lights of Water Lantern Festival. It’s a night that you’ll never forget.

Nevada Day

This year will be our state’s 157th birthday, and also marks 83 years since the Nevada Day Celebration moved to our Capitol, featuring a large parade in downtown Carson City.

The 2021 parade theme is “Historic Moments in Nevada”. Numerous moments throughout our state’s history help shape and define Nevada. From the day this glorious state was born on October 31, 1864 during the Civil War, to the current year 2021, specific periods in time during our 157 years of statehood tend to stand out and set us apart from the other 49.
