Giving Thanks: 15 Reasons We Are Grateful For Montrêux

Thanksgiving is a time to express gratitude, so it’s the perfect opportunity to share why we cherish our Montrêux Golf & Country Club. Conveniently located between Reno and Lake Tahoe, Montrêux is a private, 726-acre golf course community with approximately 550 luxury home sites. The centerpiece is the renowned 18-hole, Jack Nicklaus Signature Championship Course.

Here are 15 reasons why we are thankful for Montrêux:

1. World Class Golf. Montrêux’s Par 72 PGA Championship golf course features a number of drops in elevation as it meanders 7,500 yards through towering pines and flowing streams—creating a serene and spectacular golf setting. The signature hole is the Par 4 17th, featuring a 138-foot drop from the tee box to the fairway. The unparalleled quality of this private course was recognized by the PGA when they named it host of the annual Reno-Tahoe Open in 1999. The event was later renamed to the Barracuda Championship, which Montrêux hosted until 2019.

2. Newly-Renovated Clubhouse. The new Clubhouse, just unveiled this past June, exudes elegance and alpine chic. With its gorgeous interior stonework, designer décor, cozy fireplaces and welcoming ambience, the Clubhouse feels like an extension of home.

3. Glorious Views. Whether it’s the tall pines, the pristine golf course, or the snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains, there are beautiful views in every direction.

4. Friendly Staff. The employees are part of the family. Led by General Manager John Scott, the corporate team, golf pros, bartenders, servers, fitness instructors, and facilities staff are true professionals. They are all so delightful and personable and help elevate the member and guest experience.

5. Mouth-Watering Food. Between the Clubhouse and Jack’s Den, there are several options to tempt your taste buds no matter what the occasion. Within the Clubhouse, the 19th Hole offers a casual atmosphere after a round of golf. In the Lounge, you can enjoy a nibble and sip in an overstuffed sofa or faux-fur textured chairs. Or if you are looking for a more elegant experience, you can dine in the Sierra Dining Room. Jack’s Den is located at the Fitness Center, where you can enjoy a casual breakfast or lunch, either in the restaurant or poolside.

6. Pristine Grounds. Montrêux is renowned for its impeccable landscaping, both on and off the Jack Nicklaus Signature 18-Hole Golf Course. The grounds are tended to with the finest care. In fact, Superintendent Doug Heinrichs was recently awarded with the “Golf Course Superintendent of the Year” designation by the Northern California Section of the PGA of America as well as the Barracuda Championship's 2019 Visionary Award.

7. Perfect Location. Situated between Reno and Lake Tahoe, Montrêux is just 15 minutes from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, 25 minutes from Incline Village and 15 minutes from Mount Rose Ski Tahoe ski resort. You have the convenience of city life right at your fingertips, but you feel a world away tucked in the private, gated, 24/7 security-guarded country club community.

8. No State Income Tax. Nevada remains one of only seven states that don’t impose Income Tax, which makes it even more attractive for relocation. For those coming from California, the income tax savings can amount to 13% of your taxable income. The Silver State provides tax incentives for businesses to relocate and expand, which attributes to the economical growth in the region. All of the new jobs and an exuberant workforce make the business climate ideal.

9. Four Seasons. At Montrêux, you get to experience the joy of four distinct seasons. Our elevation ranges from 5,476 ft to 5,952 ft, so we definitely see some of the fluffy white stuff come winter. And during the Dog Days of Summer, even our hottest days seems bearable due to our high desert, dry heat. The sun shines bright on our region year-round, with an average of 300 days of sunshine.

10. State of the Art Fitness Facility. Our 5,000 square foot facility offers something for everyone, no matter your interest or athletic ability. You can bench press or break a sweat with modern weight training or cardio equipment. Or perhaps you’d like to try one of our many classes including Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Qi-Gong, TRX, water aerobics, or spin. Members also have access to personal trainers and massage therapy. In addition, there are two tennis courts, a sports court, swimming pool, children’s pool, two hot tubs, and an outdoor space available for yard games.

11. Wildlife. Since Montrêux is nestled up to the forest, we get a wonderful front-row seat to Mother Nature. Deer, coyotes, raccoon, jackrabbits, marmots, squirrels, owls, and hawks have been known to pay a visit. Even the black bear, bobcat, and bald eagle have occasionally been spotted. It’s truly spectacular to share a neighborhood with some of these amazing creatures.

12. Philanthropic Heart. Thoughout the year, Montrêux partners with numerous local charity organizations. Whether it's sponsoring the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation's Tournament of Hope or The Children's Cabinet Art of The Child Fundraiser Gala, collecting donations for the "Heat for the Holidays" fundraiser or welcoming Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada to join them for an evening of fishing at the pond, our community has a servant’s heart.

13. Concert on the Green. The best outdoor party of the year! For the past 19th years, Montrêux has hosted an amazing afternoon on the Patty Sheehan Practice Hole. Members and guests can enjoy live music in a picnic setting. This past year, the Sullivan-Wonhof-Gore Luxury Real Estate Team and Dickson Realty sponsored a fantastic tent at the event and served up a custom cocktail crafted by Bently Heritage Estate Distillery!

14. Family Friendly.

Montrêux offers an abundance of activities geared for our youngest members, including the Montrêux Adventure Camp, which provides summertime excursions like ziplining, rock climbing and waterparks. The Montrêux Golden Bears and Grizzlies make up the PGA Junior League, who compete in local golf tournaments. There are also Fun Runs, Montrêux Makos water polo matches, and even a Little Montrêux Monsters Halloween party. And of course, the pool in the summertime is always a great place to make a splash!

15. Strong Sense of Community. There is never a shortage of things to do! The social calendar is jam-packed with a plethora of clubs and activities to fit your fancy. Golf events abound (including a Night Golf Couples Mixer under the light of the full moon!). You can unwind at a First Friday event or participate in a Tennis Social. Or you can show off your festive spirit by decorating your golf cart for the 4th of July parade or attending the annual Holiday Party. Whether you participate in it all, or just a subset, you and your fellow residents will share a special camaraderie.
