The 5 Best Things About North Lake Tahoe

Posted by Brooke Sullivan on Friday, February 22nd, 2019 at 3:27pm

It’s no secret that the Sierras have a lot of snow covering their mountains and now is the perfect time to enjoy all the winter escapes of Lake Tahoe.

North Lake Tahoe is just a 20- to 30-minute drive from South Reno, depending on where you are. The lake is a treasure in all seasons, but there’s nothing quite like it when it’s covered in a blanket of snow. Whether you’re on the mountain, or sitting lakeside, we’ve picked five ways to exhilarate your sense at the lake.

Craft Brews & Prized Eats

Incline Village in North Lake Tahoe is a quaint little town home to Sierra Nevada College, the Hyatt and the local’s favorite burrito stop T’s Mesquite Rotisserie. Incline is also home to Alibi Ale Works, a local craft brewery responsible for the production of a suite of ales known for their bold, full flavor. You won’t want to skip the delectable dining scene, with nearly 120 restaurants to tickle any fancy. Be sure to stop by Wolfdale’s in Tahoe City. This restaurant has been a go-to spot since it opened in 1978. Most menus are seasonal cuisine with either Asian or European influence.

WinterWonderGrass

WinterWonderGrass brings the best of bluegrass, jamgrass and roots to North Lake Tahoe at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows from March 29 through the 31. All ages will be entertained from the kid zone and VIP lounge to complimentary craft brew and cider daily and more. The event originally got started as a homegrown music festival with the goal to give back. The coordinators still donate to worth organizations and WWG is partnered with Waste-Free Earth to reduce their carbon footprint. You can find the whole lineup here

Play in the Snow

Home to the highest concentration of ski resorts in North America, if you don’t get a chance to play in the snow at Tahoe you’re doing winter wrong. North Lake alone has 12 resorts that offer a variety of diverse terrain which creates activities of all different levels. Not a skier? That’s okay! There’s cross-country, snowshoeing, snow bikes, snow tubing and sledding, and snowmobiling to all choose from.

Take a Deep Breath

There’s nothing like a deep breath of fresh mountain air. You can smell the towering pines and feel the fresh breeze coming off of Tahoe’s cool, clear waters. Your senses will be stimulated and whether you’re close to home, or visiting from far away, you will feel like you’ve truly gotten away from daily life. Stroll through the charming mountain towns or head to one of the many premier spas to pamper yourself with some “me” time.

Watch a Sunset

Reno-Tahoe is home to epic, desert sunsets that splash the sky with a myriad of colors. As night approaches and the sun dips behind the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, the vibrant colors reflect off of Tahoe’s huge, flat surface and it will take your breath away. No matter the season, nature always puts on a show when the sun says goodnight.
