The one-day event is coming up at the end of next month and will take place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The event runs a full day, with doors opening at 8 a.m. and speakers presenting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can buy tickets now at www.tedxuniversityofnevada.org.

The theme this year is “sides”. TEDxUNR is aiming to present new ideas from many sides, in order to enhance knowledge and even change lives. Those in attendance will find themselves surrounded by other curious people excited to be inspired. The environment is pumped full of optimistic energy and the event also presents opportunities to network and connect with both attendees as well as speakers and performers.

The 21 speakers include three performers, eight local speakers and ten speakers from all around the U.S. and Canada. Some talks will leave the audience shook, questioning their life and the world they live in. Some might ask attendees to take a stand, or join in a movement.

Speakers and performers include:

Sharyl Attkisson, Journalist

A five-time Emmy Award winner and recipient of the Edward R. Murrow award for investigative reporting, Attkisson is author of the new book “The Smear” to be released in Spring 2017.

John Brenkus, Creator, Executive Producer and Host of Sport Science

Brenkus has appeared in and produced more than 1,500 segments featured on ESPN’s entire sports platform including SportsCenter, Monday Night Football and the NBA Finals.

Robin Brockelsby, Entrepreneur

A serial entrepreneur and Reno local, Brockelsby’s newest project stems from her personal journey to seek her true self. She is also incoming president of the board for the Crisis Call Center of Nevada.

Cara Brookins, Author

Brookins is most widely known as the woman who escaped a domestically violent relationship, and then built her own home along with her four children by watching YouTube videos.

Steven Ing, Trainer and Therapist

Through writing and speaking engagements, Ing, another Reno local, is reframing an important conversation in society — one about the intelligent management of human sexuality.

Troi Irons, Vocalist and Guitarist

Irons will be bringing her daring and dynamic style to the stage to deliver moody guitar riffs and boundary-defying lyrics.

Jim James, Lead Singer of My Morning Jacket

James has toured with the likes of Neil Young, Pearl Jam and Bob Dylan. He will be both performing and speaking at TEDxUniversityofNevada.

Daniel Price, CEO of Breadware

Price leads the Reno-based electronics design and sourcing company that partners with organizations to help them launch new IoT (Internet of Things) products.

Allen Stone, Soul Artist

Stone will take a break from writing his fourth full-length album to perform his soulful music, which aims to transport listeners to a more exalted plane.

Seating is limited, and tickets are available for purchase at tedxuniversityofnevada.org. General admission is $100, and for the first time, a group sale discount is available for groups of eight or more, reducing the ticket price to $90. The group sale discount gives organizations an opportunity for their employees to develop team-building.
