The annual celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe helped raise over $55,000 for three local nonprofits.

The education-focused nonprofits consisted of Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation, Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation and Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club. On August 23, each nonprofit was presented with a $18,410 check at Edgewood. The three groups donated 400 volunteer hours to staff the concession stands during the 2018 American Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament. This year, the event saw record attendance of 57,097.

The Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation awards over $100,000 in scholarships to continuing and transferring students. They support educational excellence by assisting and encouraging investment in the development and growth of educational opportunities at their college. The scholarships are all made possible by donations and fundraisers.

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation supports the educational programs and needs of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District. They are funded solely by donations and fundraisers and are focused on increasing their visibility in the community and promoting the value of education.

Members of the Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club are dedicated people who share a passion for both community service and friendship. The club brings together a global network of community leaders who dedicate their time and talent to tackle the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. They connect 1.2 million members from more than 200 countries and geographical areas, impacting lives at both the local and international levels.

Edgewood had a change this year with the charity concession tents and when considering which charitable endeavors to partner with, they wanted to focus on education.

"We wanted to see an immediate impact from this opportunity and we wanted it to focus on education initiatives," Corinna Osborne, Edgewood Tahoe general manager, said in a statement. "All three partners are doing incredible work that benefits our students."

Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation will use its portion to help expand the college’s newest scholarship – the Lake Tahoe College Promise. This will allow them to provide free education to first-time, full-time California residents.

"A primary goal of the LTCC Foundation is to raise funds this year in order to expand the Promise Program basin-wide in the 2019/2020 school year and provide tuition for California and Nevada residents attending LTCC full time," Nancy Harrison, executive director of the LTCC Foundation, said in a statement.

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation is dedicating its efforts to enrichment programs and support for kindergarten through 12th grade students in the school district.

"We would like to thank Edgewood Tahoe for this opportunity and for focusing their philanthropy in 2018 on making a difference for our local students," Virginia Berry, Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation interim co-president, said in a statement. "This contribution will go directly back to students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for a wide range of programs and enrichment opportunities. We are deeply grateful for the support."

The Tahoe-Douglas Rotary is going to use its funds to support education in the South Shore.
