All the Best Reno Restaurants in 2018

Reno had many new restaurant openings in 2018 and the 20 included on this list added something to the foodie scene. Whether it was their famous name, a cuisine we were lacking, a fabulous product or an engaging story, you’ll find it here.

 

Ăn – Asian Kitchen & Bar

Ăn is Vietnamese for “eat” and the restaurant carries on the tradition of Asian food by occupying the architecturally distinct location that held Café de Thai for many years. Located at 7499 Longely Lane.

 

Brauhaus 701

Located in Midtown, you can get all the German-inspired food at this German beer hall. There aren’t many others like it in town and you can even score vegan tacos there too. Located at 713 S. Virginia St.

 

Café de Thai

The café was the first in Reno to offer a modern twist on Thai food and one of the first restaurants of its kind to serve craft cocktails. They’ve moved on from their original location to Midtown. Located at 760 S. Virginia St.

 

Dutch Bros Coffee

Dutch Bros has gotten a lot of hype on the west coast and when it came to Reno, people lined down the street to get their fix. Located at 7250 and 4555 S. Virginia St.

 

Esoteric Wine Bar at Thali

West Street Wine Bar closed in 2018 after almost a decade and this new joint now occupies the space. Wine enthusiasts don’t need to worry, they have one of the most creative, intelligently sourced wine lists in the region. Located in West Street Market, 148 West St.

 

Haru

This restaurant has Japanese flair with a menu consisting of ramen, donburi rice bowls and plates of estimable karaage. There is also a bonito flake IPA that looks tempting. Located at 5210 Longley Lane.

 

Haveli Indian Cuisine & Bar

Haveli is technically in Sparks, but it fits in this list for the sole reason of its fancy décor. Sit on slipcovered chairs with gold sashes, embroidered tablecloths, cut glass centerpieces, gold flatware and windows docked with gold valances. Located at 287 Los Altos Parkway.

 

Homegrown Gastropub

Spencer Shea finally opened his gastropub in Midtown after much anticipation. The restaurant is open until 2 am and excels at elevated, organic pub food. Located at 719 S. Virginia St.

 

The Kitchen by Great Full Gardens

Expanding their healthy-eating empire, Great Full opened this grab-and-go spot. This is their fourth location and has a salad bar, hot soups and entrees and Gino the Soup Man line of frozen vegan soups and meals. Located at 5220 Longley Lane.

 

Kwok’s Asian Bistro

Chef Kwok Chen sold his interest in Jazmine to open this restaurant in downtown at the old China Diner. Customers go wild for the lotus pork belly buns, clay pot curry and head-on salt and pepper prawns. Located at 275 West St.

 

Monaciello

This stylish Italian place has a cool aqua dining room, trapezoidal walnut panels and a decorative screen of patinated steel. Be sure to try the beef and Italian sausage lasagna. Located at 190 California Ave.

 

Perenn Bakery

This restaurant comes from the owners of Butter & Salt, one of Reno’s best caterers. They have an art and craft of baking rustic breads, flaky croissants and kouign amann. Located at 20 Saint Lawrence Ave.

 

Pine State Biscuits

These guys came all the way from the south of Portland to bring their buttery, flaky and gravy-covered Southern biscuits to downtown. This location is the first beyond the PDX. Located at 200 S. Center St.

 

The Pizza Collective

Pies are fashioned from sourdough crust and local ingredients. They bubble and blister inside of a 900-degree Italian wood-fire pizza oven. Located in the West Street Market at 148 West St.

 

Pizzava

This Midtown pizzeria was opened by two cousins with roots in the Boston pizza business. They stray away from the traditional and err more on the side of crazy with their American cheeseburger and French-fry bacon pies. Located at 1043 S. Virginia St.

 

Rue Bourbon

A New Orleans option! This restaurant features a small menu of classic dishes, craft cocktails, live jazz, art from NOLA and a mural showing Bourbon Street at evening twilight. Located at 1401 S. Virginia St.

 

Rum Sugar Lime

This bar has quickly become one of the best in the city and they pay homage to the Holy Trinity of tropical cocktails. Classic drinks are shaken or stirred. Located at 1039 S. Virginia St.

 

Ruth’s Chris Steak House

Ruth’s Chris came to Reno in early December and is one of the biggest names we saw in 2018. This national steak house chain is always a hit. Located in the Silver Legacy at 407 N. Virginia St.

 

Seven Troughs Speakeasy

The bar is from the folks at Seven Trough Distillery and only debuted about three weeks ago. The speakeasy shows promise with shareable plates and craft cocktails. Located in the Basement shops at 50 S. Virginia St.

 

Whispering Vine Wine Co.

The leading independent wine retailed in Reno celebrated its 20^th anniversary and opened its fourth location in Midtown. With the new location and audience, the owner reworked the menu to have a great emphasis on cocktails. Located at 772 S. Virginia St.
